New Mexico and alpacas - the two go hand in hand, a fact already discovered by the our members of New Mexico Alpaca Breeders and one that we hope you will discover too. For centuries, New Mexico has been the home of agricultural businesses and textile industries. Now, with the introduction of alpaca ranching to New Mexico, we are adding a new twist to the traditional industries of the state.
The traditional textile industry of New Mexico is renowned for producing exquisite products ranging from skillfully handcrafted items to commercially processed goods. These products are sought after by consumers from all parts of the world. With the addition of alpaca fiber to the New Mexico textile industry, the product offerings are greatly enhanced. Alpacas were first introduced to the USA in quantity in the 1980's and the business of alpaca ranching has been steadily growing ever since. Breeding and raising alpacas is the fastest growing livestock business in America and one that has many tax advantages and certainly a high rate of return. Owners and breeders also enjoy the opportunity to work with these enchanting, easily maintained animals and create a lifestyle envied by many. New Mexico's temperate winters, dry heat summers and beautiful spring and fall, combined with wide open spaces and reasonable land costs make it a great state in which to have your alpaca business. New Mexico breeders are passionate about their business and constantly aim to breed the best alpacas in the USA.
We established this group in 2002 with the purpose of promoting and marketing New Mexico breeders throughout the state. The group serves our members through networking, sharing resources and assisting each other as appropriate. Throughout the year the group holds periodic meetings, educational seminars and sponsors events such as the Santa Fe Alpaca Show each year. Ownership of alpacas is not a requirement to join the group. If you are interested in learning more about alpacas, join us as an Associate Member and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from established breeders within the group.
