The following is information I received from Marilyn Nishitani regarding an alpaca show in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Ruidoso Downs Race Track has been contacted regarding the possibility of having an alpaca show: Facilities include: Auction arena with abundant seating Food Court that the race track will man and fill with food for purchase Meeting Rooms 196 Permanent stalls that would hold three or four alpacas Covered sidewalks from all stalls to arena area that could be filled with vendors Additional covered area that houses 600 temporary horse stalls Easy access for trailers (Because of inside contacts) We can have all this for the cost of the utilities approx. $500.00. This is really unbelievable since they rent the same facilities to the motorcycle meet for a mere $25,000.00. We would have to make arrangements for the flooring in the stalls since they have sawdust on the floor. We could either charge to get the shredded cardboard or just do like the Sun City Sizzle and have people bring their own floor material. Motels within one to two miles are numerous and new. If we wanted we could also rent the Museum which is adjacent for a meal....but I haven't checked on a price. If we were to provide a meal it needs to be one that is worth what the buyer pays for the ticket. This could be a great venue to start a new New Mexico show, our costs would be low and we could make come money. If we make this a fun show with Halloween type atmosphere I think it would be well attended. I have spoken to numerous people at Mid winter and they all seemed to be excited about the idea. Also would like to see premiums paid for events like costume best animal and handler, obstacle course in costume awards. We need to have more fun it seems to me. Also if we could have the fun things Saturday evening with wine and cheese instead of a meal I think we would also get better participation. The money could come from the fee charged for the event. Ideas to raise front money: Herd sire on line auction Pre registration for stall space Advertising of course (maybe give a discount on stall fees if farms advertise at a certain level) Anything to entice entries and vendors. We need to decide so I can tell the Race Track yea or nay so they don't rent the facility if we want it and then to free it up if we don't want to do this. Thanks Marilyn |

What is the status of this? I received an inquiry from Rod via email. I replied with a few more questions, but didn't get a response. Does this mean that this event is no longer in consideration?
