ACE 101 – Herd Assessment and Breeding Strategies

In this dynamic one-day class the Alpaca breeder will learn skills to evaluate alpacas and develop a herd scoring system to keep competitive in a livestock business.  A basic livestock model is used to define Seedstock producer goals and expectations so the student can successfully develop individual breeding targets and strategies.  Students will develop a herd performance data system and apply it in effective breeding strategies to achieve overall herd genetic improvement.  Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) are explained and their use integrated into this training program.  Students will leave with a thorough knowledge of EPDs and will be ready to use them successfully in their own breeding programs.

Taught by Brett Kaysen PhD (Colorado State University) and David Barboza (AOBA & IAJS Certified Judge).  Their combined insight, knowledge and experience make this an invaluable clinic for both new and experienced breeders.
